Red Hat Configuration HOWTOs

This is a quick list of some tasks users may want to perform on any fresh new installation of Red Hat Linux. This assumes that all of the installation went smoothly. This doesn't cover the packages and tools already available in Red Hat Linux, for which the documentation can be found at http://www.redhat.com/support/manuals/ and in the man pages already installed.

Warning!

Red Hat, Inc. has released a new version of their Linux distribution about once every six months. Also, their desktop is now managed under the name 'Fedora Core.' These tips cover most releases, including

  • Red Hat Linux 7.0 (Guinness)
  • Red Hat Linux 7.1 (Seawolf)
  • Red Hat Linux 7.2 (Enigma)
  • Red Hat Linux 7.3 (Valhalla)
  • Red Hat Linux 8.0 (Psyche)
  • Red Hat Linux 9 (Shrike)
  • Fedora Core 1 (Yarrow)
  • Fedora Core 2 (Tettnang)
  • Fedora Core 3 (Heidelberg)

However, where certain tips are not advised, or indeed would not work as expected, a warning box like this one will make note of the issues.
